While anytime of the year is great to visit Panguitch Lake summertime has to be one of our favorites. Local residents from nearby cities such as St. George and Las Vegas make the trip up the mountain to get out of the scorching 100+ degree temperatures. The activities are endless but for this trip we decided to take our family to nearby Brian Head Peak. The air is much thinner at the peak with an elevation topping out at 11,307 feet high. It is the highest peak in the Markgunt, Plateau and also in the county. At the peak is a forest service lookout cabin the was built in 1934-1935. It is pretty well preserved considering the age and snow fall that this area receives in the winter. Travel to Brian Head Peak is simple and a well groomed gravel road can take you all the way to the top to the lookout. The views in all directions are absolutely stunning. From the summit you can see parts of Nevada, Arizona, and of course Utah. This may be somewhere you will want to plan to visit on your next trip to the area.
